Andrew Heikkila, better known as Andy O. in the Boise hip-hop and entertainment scene, began writing his first bars when he was in the 6th grade. Fast-forward to September of 2015 and Andy teamed up with Weighn Beats to complete his Freshman album, I Never Went to Summer Camp.
Born and raised in Boise, ID, Andy O. holds his hometown in high esteem, using both it and his past experiences to color his subject matter. He also borrows from and integrates elements of Slug of Atmosphere’s intense self-scrutiny, Aesop Rock’s wordy and bizarre patterns of flow, and Sage Francis’s impassioned, poetic verses.
Shortly after releasing The SmokeRoom League Mixtape Vol. I with Axiom, Andy O. would meet Alexander the Greatest, and the trio would form The Earthlings rap/hip-hop crew. Eventually that group would expand to include ZERO and Andy’s former high-school classmate, Clev Speech, as well as DJ Manek.
While Andy O. has spent most of his first year running the , studying the local music scene, and helping to facilitate local events such as 208 Music’s Hip Hop Sundays, and The Community All-Ages Hip-Hop Nights, Andy’s still found time to perfect his performances.
Mentionable accolades include opening up for artists such as Mobb Deep, K.Flay, PsalmOne of Rhymesayers Ent., Louis Logic (formerly of the Demigodz), Onry Ozzborn of Oldominion and Grayskul, and rising independent artist Jay Tablet just to name a few. Andy O. has also held the crown as 208 Rap Battle Champion multiple times.
With recordings and performances that put emphasis on quality, creativity, originality, and energy, Andy O. is set on proving to the world that truly, every human being is born to do great things.
