En Route to Reno Sculpture Fest

Visionary artists aren’t motivated by profits. Instead they are plagued with an incessant itch to share their work with the world. Reno Sculpture Festival has served as an outlet for the third-dimensional artisan since 2015 as a result of the Reno/Lake Tahoe area’s transcendence from simply being the “Gateway to Burning Man” and emerging as a mecca for art, culture and music in its own right.

Earthlings Entertainment is excited to be on the scene the weekend of May 12-14 when the City of Reno transforms twelve city blocks into a larger-than-life celebration of music and the arts. Though sculptors have yet to be announced, last year the fest was donned by over 30 regional and international luminaries in the visual arts.

Last year, the city’s Cultural Affairs Division was so dazzled by Jeff Schomberg and Laura Klimpton’s “BELIEVE” sculpture, which was originally created for Burning Man that they bought it for $70,000. The local government’s unique dedication to the arts should compel first-time visitors to wander out of Sculpture Fest proper and check out the 170+ pieces of public art installed throughout the city.

The music segment is already stacked with bass apostles such as CharlesTheFirst, j.phlip and Soohan, soulful heavyweights Vokab Kompany and Monophonics, and a special set from the sprightly Moving Units performing the genre-defining, post-punk tunes of Joy Division.

To top off the greatness, Reno Sculpture Fest is a free event. Concerts can be paid for individually or attendees can snag an all venue, all weekend wristband for only $100.
